Friday/Saturday, 10./11. November 2017

Place of meeting: Professur für Bildungssoziologie, Pädagogische Hochschule Nordwestschweiz Basel und Institut für Bildungswissenschaften, Universität Basel

Congress, organized by the sections of Educational Sociology of the Swiss, German and Austrian Societies of Sociology (SGS, DGS, ÖGS) and the Leading House on Governance in Vocational and Professional Education and Training (GOVPET)

In the German-speaking countries, sociological research has to date given little attention to the topic of educational governance, which, however, is more prominent in political science and education science. The conference aims to identify the potential of a sociological approach to educational governance and to review critically the approach to educational governance in education science. Furthermore, the conference aims to extend research on the governance of schools, vocational education and training, higher education, and further education – as this research has up to now mainly focused on the meso level of organizational processes and structures as well as institutional arrangements. First, at the micro level, it is important to consider also how individual educational decisions condition educational pathways. Second, at the macro level, it is crucial to take into account the significance of educational systems as a key setting for the reproduction and the transformation of social power structures and inequalities.
